It seems that with every passing year, new and improved appliances hit the market. Quite often, it is difficult to keep up with the newest technologies and because you don’t purchase these items on a daily basis, more research is needed before buying.
One of the appliances that is continuously evolving is the water heater. We are going to discuss the key benefits of choosing a tankless water heater for your home. Keep reading for more information.
It’s Easy Being Green
A big factor in choosing new appliances is how efficient they are. Efficiency is key when you are looking at ways to save money and be environmentally friendly.
Traditional water heaters store water in a tank, preheat it, and use energy to keep it hot.
When you are ready for hot water, you must allow the faucet to run to clear the cold water from the pipes and let the water from the tank make its way to your location. This creates a lot of excess wastewater that until now was unavoidable.
Tankless water heaters use far less energy because they heat the water you need when you need it–they are basically on-demand, with no real limit on how much hot water is used. Because the water typically has less distance to travel, there is less wastewater created.
Take a Look at Cost Savings
The fact that tankless water heaters are so efficient and use energy to heat the water only when needed means that you will see a fair amount of savings on your monthly energy bills.
This isn’t the only savings you’ll see, though. Tankless water heaters are typically more expensive than traditional water heaters and the installation costs may seem high.
However, choosing an updated, tankless water heater means that you will only have to replace it every 20 years. Traditional water heaters must be replaced every 8-12 years, require a fair amount of maintenance, and usually will need repairs before the end of their useful life.
Additionally, consider the fact that your family will not have to fight and argue over whether or not someone is taking too long in the shower or if they will have to shower last. Everyone will have the hot water they need, when they need it, for however long they wish to bathe. This makes for a winning situation for each member of your family!
Take Your Attic Back
A major annoyance with traditional water heaters is the fact that the tank takes up space and must be stored somewhere.
Typically, this ‘somewhere’ is in your attic, a closet, garage, or basement and all of these spaces are used to store important family belongings.
A tankless water heater will still use some space but far less than a cumbersome tank. In fact, these systems are about the size of a large computer! Although we are big fans of tankless water heaters, we understand that they aren’t the right choice for everyone.
If you are curious about these systems, take time to learn about them.
